‘Alchemy of Secrets’ Series Adaptation in the Works From ‘Vampire Diaries’ Co-Creator!!

The decade-long era of The Vampire Diaries might be over, but co-creator Julie Plec is not done with supernatural storytelling. A new report reveals that Plec is adapting the book Alchemy of Secrets for television. The book was just released this week by writer Stephanie Garber. The adaptation is set up at Universal Television, but it’s unclear where the series will be streaming. “Out of everything I’ve written, Alchemy of Secrets is the book that I really wanted to see adapted for film or television,Garber said in a statement. She expressed excitement regarding Plec‘s adaptation, saying,

“I’ve been ecstatic from the moment Universal Television first reached out. Then I met with Julie Plec, and it truly felt like a wild fever dream come true. I’ve followed Julie’s work for years. In some ways, I feel as if her storytelling is part of how I learned to write; I think she’s incredible at weaving magic into the real world, and I cannot wait to work with her and the UTV team to bring Alchemy of Secrets to life.”

Alchemy of Secrets follows Holland St. James, a young woman who has always believed in magic. St. James tracks down a local Los Angeles legend known as the Watch Man, who supposedly can predict the date of someone’s death. However, the local legend has some bad news: St. Holland will die by midnight the following day unless she finds an ancient object called the Alchemical Heart. A race against time begins as her search commences, but threatens to be derailed by a magnetic stranger. Together, they continue the search, but St. James realizes that failing to find the Alchemical Heart might not be the biggest threat to her existence; it’s the world she uncovers that poses the greatest danger.

What Is Julie Plec Working On Currently?

Plec is fresh off a successful adaptation of We Were Liars based on E. Lockhart‘s novel. The series dominated Prime Video‘s streaming charts and was subsequently renewed for a second season. As for the fate of The Vampire Diaries universe, she said that she was disappointed with the cancellation of Legacies but has teased a new series in the universe. “I have had ideas for more Vampire Diaries stories since we were doing the last Vampire Diaries story. All anybody has to do is ask, and I will be there, Plec recently said in an interview. For now, viewers will have to relish this new adaptation before anything in The Vampire Diaries universe materializes.
