HBO’s Harry Potter series is filming in full swing. From massive sets and John Lithgow’s stylish Dumbledore outfits to Nick Frost’s Hagrid on London streets and unseen characters from the books, the creative team behind the scenes is doing its best to bring more magic to the well-known Wizarding World. Hardcore Harry Potter fans around the globe were skeptical when the series was first announced, but with each new detail, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod seem to be dedicated to delivering the most faithful adaptation yet.
Now, the series has cast another character who was overlooked in the movies. Robin Hood alum Jake Curran has joined the cast as Ronan the centaur, according to Redanian Intelligence. Centaurs in the Harry Potter movies were briefly touched upon with a scene or two, but in the books, they have an extended role.
In the books, centaurs reside in the Forbidden Forest and play a pivotal role in serving justice to Professor Umbridge and even teaching Divination to Hogwarts students. As for Ronan, he protected Harry and Hermione in the forest from other centaurs and also led his fellow creatures in breaking through the Death Eater ranks to enter the Great Hall during the Battle of Hogwarts. But his prophecy of war, “Mars is bright,” was an important indication of Harry and Hogwarts’ future. While the time constraints and CGI technology of the day did not help in bringing centaurs to life, it’ll be fascinating to see how the series portrays them.
What Do We Know About the ‘Harry Potter’ Series?
Quite a lot, Warner Bros is not worried about any leaks, it seems, as the filming takes place in England. One set video shows witches and wizards celebrating after Voldemort’s defeat, a key scene that was not included in the movies. Another set of images showcases unseen characters in both books or movies, aka Nicolas Flamel and his wife with Dumbledore, which will bring a new spin to the ending of the season based on the Philosopher’s Stone book.
We also got a look at Harry’s parents, James and Lilly. While the books shine a light on their lives at Hogwarts and then in the following years in Godric’s Hollow, the movies mostly stayed away from it, and finally the series will bridge that gap. With all the new details and characters being brought on screen, the series will be a must-watch even for avid fans.
The Harry Potter series is currently filming for a Season 1 premiere expected to arrive in 2027.
