‘Extraction: Taigo’: ‘Extraction’ Sets International Spin-Off With Ma Dong Seok & ‘Squid Game’ Star Lee Jin Wook!!

The Extraction franchise just got a lot more exciting as the film series is going international! Directed by Sam Hargrave, the Chris Hemsworth-led film series is based on Ande Parks’ 2014 graphic novel Ciudad, which focuses on a hired security operative, Tyler Rake. A third movie has since been in development with an eight-episode TV series starring Omar Sy as the lead, scheduled to enter production later this year. More details about both projects will be unveiled in due time, including their release dates, and in the meantime, fans will be thrilled to know that a Korean Extraction project is on the way!

New reports reveal that Netflix has set a Korean spin-off titled Extraction: Taigo, which is reportedly in development. The project is expected to star Squid Game’s Lee Jin Wook and Train to Busan’s Ma Dong Seok, with filming scheduled to get underway in October 2025, possibly after the Korean national holiday Chuseok, which already took place between October 5 and October 8, 2025. Reports also claim that filming will begin in mid-October 2025 and conclude around mid-January 2026; however, Netflix has yet to make an official announcement.

Extraction: Taigo will be helmed by Lee Sang Yong, director of The Outlaws 2, and written by Cha Woo Jin. Big Punch Pictures, B&C, and Nova Film are the companies in charge of producing. Neither plot details for the feature nor its connection to the Extraction universe have been revealed; however, we know that it follows the character, Ma Dong-seok, who “appears as a mercenary,” embarking on a dangerous mission “to rescue a kidnapped colleague.”

Who Will Star in the New ‘Extraction’ Spin-Off?

The two names reportedly attached to Extraction: Taigo, as mentioned above, are Ma Dong Seok and Lee Jin Wook. Ma Dong Seok doesn’t have much of a history with Netflix, except for featuring in the 2024 film Badland Hunters. Still, he is perhaps most well-known for starring in the acclaimed zombie-horror film Train to Busan. MCU fans may also remember him for his role as Gilgamesh in Eternals. Other projects he has starred in include The Roundup as well as the Korean action film, The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil. Lee Jin Wook, on the other hand, has been involved in a couple of popular Netflix shows, including Squid Game, Sweet Home, Beyond the Bar, and Bulgasal: Immortal Souls. He has also had a guest role in the Netflix K-drama Doona.
