Only Murders in the Building is leaving the building in season six. The next season of the Hulu mystery comedy will reportedly leave the cozy but killer-infested confines of Manhattan’s Arconia building for Europe; likely London, England, the site of many a mystery. The fifth-season finale of the series will debut on Hulu tomorrow, Tuesday, October 28.
According to reports, the show will at least partially relocate to London for its next season; this would be the longest “field trip” for the show to date, whose only other sojourn outside the vicinity of New York City was last season’s trip to Hollywood. The show has not yet been formally renewed for a sixth season yet, but that renewal often comes around the airing of its season finale; the show remains a critical hit, and stars Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez (all of whom also executive produce the series) have all indicated their desire to continue it for as long as possible.
What’s Happening in Season 5 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’?
Oliver Putnam (Short), Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), and Mabel Mora (Gomez) may need to relocate to Europe at the end of the season, because it’s starting to look like there won’t be an Arconia for much longer. As part of a twisted game of avarice with fellow billionaires Jay Pflug (Logan Lerman) and Bash Steed (Christoph Waltz), home decor tycoon Camila White (Renée Zellweger) has bought up the majority of the Arconia and intends to turn it into New York City’s first casino. The question remains: how is the fate of the building tied up with the mysterious deaths of longtime Arconia doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) and local mobster Nicky Caccimelio (Bobby Cannavale), both of whom were aware of the secret gambling parlor already hidden in the Arconia’s basement? And whose severed finger ended up in Charles, Oliver, and Mabel’s possession…and who subsequently stole it from them, and why? It all comes to a head in tomorrow’s finale, which will reveal the true identity and motive of the killer or killers, and, as per Only Murders tradition, will presumably also reveal who next season’s murder victim is.
Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman (Grace & Frankie), Only Murders in the Building has been a hit with critics and fans since it premiered in the summer of 2021. In her review of season five, Collider‘s Meredith Loftus found that the show “remains at the top of its game.”
