‘Only Murders in the Building’ Officially Renewed for Season 6!!

It’s official: the Only Murders in the Building crew are back on the case for a sixth season. The popular Hulu mystery comedy series has been renewed for a new season in the wake of today’s fifth-season finale, which teases another murder mystery. What’s more, our intrepid amateur sleuths will be going farther out of the building than they ever have before.

Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and “fourth Musketeer” Michael Cyril Creighton are back in action in the new season, which will see them heading overseas to London, England, to solve another murder. While that murder did (barely) take place in the Arconia, the building of the title, the case will take them to the homeland of Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, and Inspector Morse. As new seasons of Only Murders in the Building have traditionally dropped on a yearly basis, it’s safe to assume that the new season will debut on Hulu in 2026; like all previous seasons of the series, it will consist of ten episodes.

What Is ‘Only Murders in the Building’ About?

Set in the Arconia, an upscale Manhattan apartment building, Only Murders in the Building follows three of the building’s residents: washed-up 1980s TV actor Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), would-be Broadway impresario Oliver Putnam (Short), and aspiring artist Mabel Mora (Gomez), who find themselves united by a love of true-crime podcasts, and end up recording their own when Arconia resident Tim Kono (Julian Cihi) is murdered in season 1. They solve that crime, and each and every season has presented them with a new murder to solve: cantankerous Arconia board president Bunny Folger (Jane Houdyshell) in season two, arrogant actor Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) in season three, Charles’ longtime stunt double and confidant Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch) in season four, and veteran Arconia doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) in season five. Over the course of the series, the trio, largely strangers to each other, have become a tight-knit group, with eccentric Arconia resident Howard Morris (Creighton) becoming a “fourth wheel” of sorts.

The idea for Only Murders in the Building came to star Steve Martin a decade ago; he envisioned a trio of elderly men who were obsessed with solving crimes, but were too old to leave their apartment building (which was loosely based on the real-life Ansonia). Martin cast longtime friend and colleague Short as the other member of the trio, but rewrote the third member as a younger woman when Gomez came on board, serving as a source of intergenerational humor. The series has been a consistent critical and ratings success since its debut in 2021.

Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for a sixth season that will likely premiere in 2026.
