Netflix has been home to a few video game-based titles, and another could soon enter its catalog. Crash Bandicoot, the former PlayStation exclusive video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog (the same legendary studio behind The Last of Us and Uncharted), could receive its own Netflix adaptation. The video game franchise first came out in 1996, and the show could be produced by the same studio that worked on Sonic Prime.
What’s On Netflix reported that WildBrain Studios will animate the project. Aside from Sonic Prime, it has also worked on numerous projects, including Johnny Test, Fireman Sam, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, and Caillou. At the moment, plot details and casting have not been teased, and a scheduled release date has not been announced. Last year, it was reported that WildBrain Studios was also attached to the upcoming Minecraft animated series, but it was recently reported that a different studio will be tackling the animation, and also included in the creative team are writers who worked on What If…? and TMNT: We Strike Hard and Fade Away Into the Night.
Crash Bandicoot is a 3D platformer video game where players fill the colorful shoes of Crash — a genetically enhanced bandicoot, whose goal is to defeat the evil scientist and his creator, Dr. Neo Cortex. The game has players traversing obstacle-filled levels that require running, jumping, and spinning while collecting gems and Wumpa fruit. Since its debut in 1996, it has released eight console platformers, 10 mobile games, and five racing titles, among others.
What Other Video Game Films and TV Shows Are On Netflix?
Netflix is home to many video game adaptations. One big franchise on the platform is Pokémon, as the anime series, like Pokémon: Horizons, and its spin-offs, like Pokémon Concierge, are available to stream. Additionally, Netflix hosts the award-winning video game adaptations Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (based on Cyberpunk 2077) and Arcane (based on League of Legends), both of which dominated the platform upon release. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered in 2022, and a second season was recently announced. Meanwhile, Arcane aired its final Season in 2024, and there is no news for a new show based on the popular MOBA (though the series creators have repeatedly confirmed that more League of Legends adaptations are in development). Other video games like Skylanders Academy, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, Sonic the Hedgehog, Tomb Raider: Lara Croft, and Halo are on the platform, as are video game-inspired titles like Ready Player One and High Score.
The Netflix Crash Bandicoot series has yet to announce a release date.
