There’s finally some light at the end of the tunnel for those of us out there who have been waiting on pins and needles for the Brad Pitt-led Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel. According to a recent report, the film, which will return to the universe first dreamt up by Quentin Tarantino in his 2019 box office giant, audiences can pencil in a summer 2026 release for the project titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth. With a home studio of Netflix, subscribers around the world will be able to turn the page and welcome the next chapter into their homes, while, like other films such as Guillermo del Toro’s recently released Frankenstein, a cinematic drop is also expected to run ahead of its streaming debut.
This time around, Tarantino will be passing over the directorial reins to David Fincher, with the original director still on-board as the sequel’s writer. Essentially, fans can expect the same tone that the first movie carried with what we’d expect to be a similar aesthetic just under the vision of the director who brought us modern classics like Zodiac and Gone Girl. The movie also marks a milestone reunion between its leading man and helmer, with Pitt and Fincher previously pairing up to work together on money-making cinematic staples like Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
While plot details are hard to come by, we know that The Adventures of Cliff Booth will pick up in the years following the harrowing final moments of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and will follow Pitt’s titular stuntman and jack of all trades, while also bringing Timothy Olyphant’s James Stacy along for the ride. Audiences are certainly hoping for at the very least a cameo from Leonardo DiCaprio in his role as Rick Dalton, but for now the confirmed cast behind The Adventures of Cliff Booth includes Elizabeth Debicki (MaXXXine), Scott Caan (Ocean’s Eleven), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman), Carla Gugino (Gerald’s Game), JB Tadena (The Cleaning Lady) and Holt McCallany (The Iron Claw).
What Else Does Netflix Have on the Way?
Should everything go the way it’s expected to, the next year and some change will be incredibly fruitful for Netflix. As we head into the new year, the final season of Stranger Things dives into the Upside Down, while the second season of the streamer’s live-action take on One Piece will set sail in the spring. Then, following the arrival of The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the platform will unveil Greta Gerwig’s eagerly anticipated fantasy flick, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.
