Just in time for Halloween, Netflix has released the first trailer for the fifth and final season of their always-spooky hit series, Stranger Things. The gang’s all here as the residents of Hawkins, Indiana make one last desperate stand against the monstrous denizens of the hellish Upside Down. The first four episodes will premiere on Netflix on November 26, the next three will drop on December 25, and the grand finale will drop on December 31.
In the new trailer, we see that the devastated Hawkins is under military lockdown after the cataclysmic events of the fourth-season finale, to the strains of Queen‘s “Who Wants to Live Forever?” However, the gang, who were split into multiple groups last season, are reunited, and they’ve got a plan to stop Upside Down puppet master Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) once and for all. If they fail, it won’t just be the end of Hawkins…it’ll be the end of the world. Unfortunately, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), whose disappearance kicked off the series, has fallen into Vecna’s clutches. The trailer also offers a glimpse of Linda Hamilton‘s Dr. Kay, a new addition to the cast this season.
What Happened Last Season on ‘Stranger Things’?
In the wake of the mall disaster at the end of season three, the Byers family and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) left town for greener pastures, and Jim Hopper (David Harbour) was left as a prisoner in a Soviet gulag. However, back in Hawkins, a number of teens began to die bizarre, unexplainable deaths. The remaining members of the gang investigated, and eventually uncovered the perpetrator…and the real force behind all of Hawkins’ Upside Down misfortunes. The root cause was Henry Creel, alias “Vecna,” a powerful psychic trapped in the monstrous dimension who’d reshaped it in his own evil image. In the season finale, the gang tried to end his threat forever, but instead saw devastating dimensional rifts open up all over Hawkins while Max (Sadie Sink) was left in a coma. Meanwhile, Eleven had a fateful reunion with one-time mentor and tormentor Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine), and Hopper, with a little help from his friends, busted out of stir in Siberia.
Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer may be leaving Netflix for a new mega-deal with the newly merged Paramount, but they aren’t done with Stranger Things yet. A slew of spin-offs is planned, including an animated series; they aren’t moving with the Duffers, and will stay at Netflix.
The first four episodes of Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season will premiere on Netflix on November 26, the next three will drop on December 25, and the series finale will drop on December 31.
