After fighting back the demonic Saja Boys, re-establishing the Honmoon, and taking the world by storm while doing it, two of Netflix‘s KPop Demon Hunters are reuniting. However, it’s not for a sequel but instead another K-pop-adjacent project that figures to be much darker. A new report confirms that May Hong, the voice of Mira in the animated juggernaut, has joined the cast of the upcoming thriller Perfect Girl, which previously brought aboard Huntr/x‘s lead vocalist, Rumi, aka Arden Cho. She’s just one of the new additions joining a group that also features real-life K-pop star Jeon Somi, as well as Adeline Rudolph and John Kim.
Beyond KPop Demon Hunters, Hong has gotten around in Hollywood, appearing in episodes of everything from Hacks to Up Here, Full Circle, and more. However, Perfect Girl figures to be just her second major film role and only her third feature-length appearance overall after her film debut in Adam. It’s a big new turn for the star, coming hot off of Netflix‘s biggest film ever. Her fellow new additions include a mix of actors and singers, including Peter Lee Jae Yoon and Samantha Cochran, alongside Filipino-Canadian singer AC Bonifacio, Thai singer and actress Ally, and three more K-pop idols — Nancy from Momoland, Siyoon from Billie, and Chaerin from Cherry Bullet.
Based on the 2023 Blacklist script penned by Lynn Q. Yu, the film has been billed as “Scream meets Black Swan,” following the formation of a new K-pop super group that’s built to shock the industry. The competition is fierce, with only four spots available and no shortage of stars showing out to earn their place on the coveted lineup. However, everything shifts with the arrival of a new girl who mysteriously enters the fray at the last minute. Upon her appearance, the carnage begins, with girls being hunted down one by one and everyone being left to question who’s responsible for the madness and, ultimately, who will be the final four standing.
‘Perfect Girl’ Will Back the Horror With Killer K-Pop Tracks
At the helm of Perfect Girl is Hong Won-ki, who will be joined by a production team that includes Cho, Badlands, John Wick backers Thunder Road, and Desert Bloom. Producer Scott Strauss hyped up the cast of the K-pop feature in a statement, saying, “Director Hong has put together a dream international cast to bring to life his uniquely fun vision for a horror movie set against the backdrop of K-pop.” While there’s a talented cast and creative team attached, the film, like KPop Demon Hunters, will be packed with original tunes. Six new tracks have been made for the thriller, including one courtesy of The Black Label’s Jeon Somi. The Black Label‘s presence is notable because it also produced the chart-dominating soundtrack for KPop Demon Hunters, meaning there should be some bangers to back the horror.
Perfect Girl is currently filming and will look to make a splash at the upcoming American Film Market.
