Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, is back on set and this time not for a series but for a movie. The Suits star stepped back from acting at the time of her engagement with Prince Harry, so the upcoming project will mark her return to our screens in an acting capacity after eight long years. It has long been anticipated by her fans that the former actress will eventually return, though Meghan was last seen on TV in the Netflix reality series With Love, where she called in her friends, aka guest stars, for each episode. However, in her movie appearance, she’ll be sharing space with an Oscar-winner.
Meghan is making a cameo appearance as herself in MGM Studios’ Close Personal Friends, which also stars Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding, People reports. While not much is known about the movie, it is helmed by director Jason Orley and follows two couples – one famous, one not – who meet and soon become fast friends. “This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves. She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right,” a source said, adding:
“It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set. Everyone involved is super-excited and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement.”
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is Taking Small Steps Towards the Big Screen
Audiences have had strong reactions to Meghan Markle following her and her husband’s feud with the Royal Family, where the Duchess of Sussex made several allegations of mistreatment and bigotry. So, it makes sense for the royal to test the waters before taking up a full-length role. Under their Netflix deal, Prince Harry and Meghan have made several projects, including a six-part docuseries, Harry & Meghan, another Live to Lead, and two seasons of With Love, Meghan, among others.
The Harry & Meghan docuseries showcased their personal life, right from their first date to their exit from the Royal family. It received mixed reviews and ratings, as seen in its Rotten Tomatoes scores: 45 percent from critics and 19 percent from the audience. Meghan’s latest venture, With Love, Meghan, takes her back to her lifestyle roots as the Duchess invites her friends to her home and gives viewers a peek into their friendship, their shared love of food, and a few hosting tips. The first season has a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics and a 30% rating among fans. How audiences react to Meghan‘s upcoming movie cameo remains to be seen.
You can check out With Love, Meghan on Netflix. Close Personal Friends does not have a release date.
