‘Death of Bunny Munro’ Trailer Finds Matt Smith in Nick Cave’s TV Adaptation!! Check It Out!!

From being many people’s favorite titular Time Lord in Doctor Who to his recent role in director Darren Aronofsky‘s crime thriller Caught Stealing, Matt Smith has always brought his signature blend of charm and emotional depth to every role he’s played. Now, he’s back with yet another eye-catching role, starring in The Death of Bunny Munro, an upcoming six-part limited series based on Nick Cave’s 2009 sophomore novel of the same name.

Ahead of the Sky Original show’s release on November 20, a full trailer has now dropped, available to watch below. The trailer gives fans their first look at the broken charisma of Smith‘s titular “sex-addicted door-to-door salesman and self-professed lothario,” alongside his son, portrayed by newcomer Rafael Mathé. Also starring the likes of Johann Myers (Without Sin), Robert Glenister (Sherwood), Alice Feetham (Boiling Point), David Threlfall (Unforgivable), and Lindsay Duncan (The Morning Show), the series is written by BAFTA winner Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) and directed by the BAFTA-nominated Isabella Eklöf (Industry, Holiday). A synopsis for The Death of Bunny Munro reads:

“Following his wife Libby’s death by suicide, sex addicted door-to-door beauty salesman and self-professed lothario Bunny Munro (Smith), finds himself saddled with his young son, Bunny Junior, and only a loose concept of parenting. As the two struggle to contain their grief in wildly different ways, Bunny takes Junior on the road for an increasingly out-of-control door-to-door sales tour around Brighton and the surrounding coast.

Bunny bounces from one sales pitch to the next, trying to seduce any woman he meets, while Junior kills time talking to the ghost of his mother and grappling with the dawning realisation that his dad isn’t just fallible, he’s a mess. As Bunny starts to unravel, he realises he must do something to rescue his son from his own outdated notions of what it is to be a man; to save him from becoming another Bunny Munro.”

Was Matt Smith’s Latest Project a Flop?

The aforementioned Caught Stealing, despite receiving positive acclaim from both critics and audiences and a “certified fresh” 84% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, was the latest in a long line of failures at the 2025 box office. Produced on a reported budget of $40 million, the movie couldn’t even hit the $30 million mark globally, finishing its theatrical run on just $28.3 million. Thankfully, since leaving theaters, the movie has found plenty of success on streaming.

Smith is also expected to reprise his role as Daemon Targaryen in the upcoming third season of House of the Dragon.
