Fans around the world saw Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) soar on the racetrack in Joseph Kosinski’s sports drama F1. The movie was a big-budget cinematic experience with compelling performances and a slick narrative. So, fans are excited about if and when there will be more, and Joseph Kosinski is just as eager to return to the high-octane world of racing as they are. The director recently revealed that talks about the sequel are actively going on with Apple, the studio behind the original film.
The last few years have been good for original concepts in every genre. Filmmakers have become more ambitious, the audiences more welcoming of fresh perspectives on the big screen, and when a spectacle is added, it leaves a great impression, just like F1 did. In a new interview, Kosinski shared his excitement for continuing Sonny and team’s story, saying
“I personally would love to see what other adventures Sonny Hayes has in his future. I’d love to see what’s happened with the APXGP team and Joshua Pearce, and see how his career goes, so I would love to be able to tell another chapter in that story and it’s something we just started kinda dreaming about and it’s fun to be in this stage of imagining what that might be.”
Can Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise Team Up for ‘F1’ Sequel
Ahead of the possible F1 sequel, Kosinski‘s next project will reportedly be a remake of the hit television series Miami Vice, with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler circling the starring roles. Such a high-profile project being the next step for Kosinski is no surprise, as F1 was a massive hit with fans and critics alike. The movie earned $631.3 million worldwide owing to its beautiful visuals and amazing racing shots. It has an 82 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics and a whopping 97 percent from fans. Since F1 came out, fans have been excited about the prospect of Pitt’s reunion with Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick star, Tom Cruise, who played a race car driver in Days of Thunder. The two starred together last in Interview with the Vampire. Nevertheless, Kosinski cleared the air, telling Collider:
“Here’s what happened. A reporter asked me a question and said, ‘If you could make a movie with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, what would that movie be?’ And I just kind of threw out this idea that Sonny Hayes comes back to the world of F1 and bumps into his old rival, Cole Trickle, who raced NASCAR in the ‘90s, and they cross paths again. I just thought that would be a really great story, but probably impossible to make. Talk about Mission: Impossible. That would be a tricky, tricky film to pull off.”
