The vibes are soaring high today for fans of HBO’s House of the Dragon, with news breaking this morning that the series has been given the go ahead for a fourth season. While audiences wait for the drama to continue next summer with the show’s third season, they can now rest assured that the story first told in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, will be told completely presuming that things will wrap up in the fourth installment. But, before fans get too far ahead of themselves and begin looking to 2027 for a Season 4 release, the announcement revealed that the series has set its eyes on a 2028 return.
In a statement paired with the big news, which also saw the renewal of the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Francesca Orsi, EVP, HBO Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films said,
“We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe. Together, HOUSE OF THE DRAGON and A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, HOUSE OF THE DRAGON is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”
What Will Go Down In Season 3 of ‘House of the Dragon’?
The quest for the crown of Westeros will continue in the upcoming season and, along with the news of the title’s Season 4 renewal, two new images tease the drama to come. Those loyal to Martin’s novel have long been waiting for the famed Battle of the Gullet, which will undoubtedly shape the course of how the pacing plays out over the next set of episodes. Meanwhile, plenty of new personalities will all bend the knee for their preferred ruler of choice, with the addition of James Norton (Happy Valley), Barry Sloane (The Sandman), Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy), Dan Fogler (Good Luck Chuck), Annie Shapero (The Narrow Road to the Deep North), Tom Cullen (The Gold) and Joplin Sibtain (Andor).
