‘The Batman Part II’: Scarlett Johansson Reportedly in Talks for a Role!!

A big-time MCU star may be answering the call of the Bat-Signal. According to a new report, Scarlett Johansson is currently in talks to join Matt Reeves‘ much-anticipated The Batman Part II in a new role. Nothing is final at this time, but if completed, she’ll be set to link up with Robert Pattinson‘s Caped Crusader when the film releases in 2027. As expected, details about who the former Black Widow could be playing in the film are locked up tight in the Batcave for now, though it’s expected to be a big turn for the Oscar nominee.

Beyond swapping allegiances from Marvel to DC, The Batman Part II would mark the latest in a wide range of franchises Johansson has signed on for of late. Earlier this year, she starred opposite Jonathan Bailey as the kickass Zora Bennett in Jurassic World: Rebirth and landed the lead role in Mike Flanagan‘s upcoming new The Exorcist film under Blumhouse. Between the latter film and Reeves‘s sequel, which is set to begin production in the spring, she’d have a crowded filming schedule to navigate next year. Whatever the case, the actress, who recently added director to her CV with her debut film, Eleanor the Great, would be a massive addition to what’s sure to be another stacked lineup inhabiting Gotham City.

Reeves is leaving everyone guessing for now about the plot of The Batman: Part II, though it’ll pick up in the aftermath of the Emmy-winning Colin Farrell-led spin-off series, The Penguin. Johansson‘s potential inclusion adds another candidate to the mix who could be the big villain of the film, assuming Barry Keoghan‘s Joker doesn’t step into the spotlight after the tease at the end of the first film. Whatever the director has in store, it’s created plenty of buzz among those who’ve seen the script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin have been ecstatic. Warner Bros. was reportedly “thrilled” with what Reeves turned in back in July, as was Jeffrey Wright, who was confirmed to return as Commissioner Jim Gordon.

‘The Batman Part II’ Has Faced a Rocky Road to Release

Bringing back the Caped Crusader on the big screen hasn’t been simple for Reeves and DC. Since the Part II announcement was made after the gritty first film earned a staggering $772.3 million at the box office, the film has endured no shortage of delays. James Gunn and Peter Safran originally announced it for October 2025 when they took the reins of the DCU in 2023, though that date has since shifted two years. With a script in and Reeves now getting his team together, things are finally looking good for Pattinson‘s Bruce Wayne. The new creative crew has bolstered its ranks with Erik Messerschmidt taking the place of Greg Fraser as cinematographer and Emmy-winning Andor production designer Luke Hull bringing his talents to the set.

The Batman Part II premieres in theaters on October 1, 2027.
