The Wrecking Crew has arrived, and their aura is unmatched. Amazon MGM Studios has released the first images from Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa‘s much-anticipated action team-up, uniting the MCU and DCU alumni for the first time since they appeared together on Apple TV‘s See and in the first two Dune movies. They’re set to be co-leads for the first time as half-brothers who, despite their differences and the troubles they face along their journey, will stick by each other through thick and thin, if the shots are any indication. That’s not to say they’ll always get along, though. The images come just over a month ahead of the film’s premiere on Prime Video on January 28.
Hailing from Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto, this new action comedy will follow the estranged half-brothers Jonny (Momoa) and James (Bautista) as they’re forced to reunite in the wake of their father’s death. Jonny is a loose cannon cop with a nebulous relationship with the rules, while James is a regimented Navy SEAL, making for a classic buddy cop dynamic. The mysterious nature of their father’s death spurs them to put that dynamic to the test on a search for the truth about what actually happened. Along the way, buried secrets resurface, and their loyalties are tested as they unravel a conspiracy that could rip their entire family apart. Yet, together, they’re built to be the perfect wrecking crew that nothing in Hawaii could stand against.
Bautista and Momoa are both action icons, but they’ll have a formidable foe to face in Danish actor Claes Bang, who previously played the villain opposite Alexander Skarsgård‘s viking Amleth in The Northman. Also among the star-studded cast are Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, Miyavi, Stephen Root, and Morena Baccarin. Soto also worked with a killer creative team, with a script written by Your Friends & Neighbors creator Jonathan Tropper and Momoa and Bautista producing alongside The Batman director Matt Reeves, Jeff Fierson, and Lynn Harris.
What Else Do Bautista and Momoa Have on the Horizon?
A team-up at Prime Video is just one of the stars’ many objectives in the coming years. Bautista will soon enter the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender as a new villain in The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, coming to theaters on October 9. He also has the sequel to Jake Gyllenhaal‘s Road House on the horizon, as well as Chad Stahelski‘s Highlander remake, where he’ll play the Kurgan opposite Henry Cavill. Momoa, meanwhile, will soon make his grand DC re-entrance as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in Supergirl in June. Coming soon as well is his comedic team-up with Ryan Reynolds, Animal Friends, the hotly anticipated Street Fighter, and, biggest of all, Dune: Part Three.
