‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’: Wyatt Russell to Lead New MonsterVerse Prequel Series at Apple TV!!

Legendary‘s MonsterVerse is expanding at AppleTV. Wyatt Russell will return to lead a new prequel series spinning out of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters that will follow his character, Lee Shaw, as he goes behind the Iron Curtain to stop one of the most terrifying monsters of all. The series is part of the shared cinematic universe that also encompasses Legendary‘s Godzilla and King Kong movies.

Who Is Lee Shaw in ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’?

In 1952, Leland “Lee” Shaw was assigned to escort Japanese scientist Keiko Miura (Mari Yamamoto) on a research mission in the Philippines; there, they met amateur monster hunter Bill Randa (Anders Holm). The skeptical Shaw soon saw evidence of the colossal creatures that secretly dwell in hidden parts of the Earth, and, with Keiko and Bill, became the core of the new monster-monitoring organization Monarch. He developed feelings for Keiko, but she was seemingly killed on a mission in 1959; the heartbroken Shaw subsequently led a mission into the Hollow Earth three years later, in 1962, but thanks to the time-distortion properties of that strange world, he was recovered in 1982 without having aged a day. Finding it difficult to adjust, especially with Randa having died in the interim, he retired to Japan (and eventually aged into Kurt Russell, Wyatt‘s real-life father) before being drawn into a new mission by Keiko’s grandchildren, on the hunt for their missing father.

If you’re on the prowl for more Monsterverse, the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is set to premiere in the spring. Amber Midthunder will join the cast as the action shifts to King Kong’s stomping grounds on Skull Island. Looking further ahead, the big ape and the giant lizard are clashing once more on the big screen in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which will hit theaters in 2027.

A new MonsterVerse TV series starring Wyatt Russell is in development at Apple TV; no release date has yet been announced.
