Oh what a year this has been for Hindi cinema! A year where smaller films quietly found their audiences, where a few unexpected titles like ‘Chhaava‘ and ‘Saiyaara‘, two average viewing experiences in my personal opinion, went on to rake in surprising box office numbers, and where some filmmakers proved that scale does not always dictate impact. But most importantly, the success of ‘Dhurandhar‘, which is still continuing its thunderous run and setting up implausible numbers (with no end in sight as of now), proved that their is room for risk. And yet, for every pleasant surprise, there was also a collective facepalm moment waiting around the corner. A year stacked with high profile announcements, dream collaborations, legacy sequels, and comeback vehicles inevitably carried expectations. Some films carried the weight of history. Some rode on star power. Some arrived with very little anticipation and still managed to disappoint. Hence, in my opinion, here are some of the worst films churned out by the Hindi film industry this year, both theatrically and on OTT:
- Mastii 4
- Sikandar
- Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat
- Baaghi 4
- Detective Sherdil
- Son of Sardaar 2
- Sarzameen
- Nikita Roy
- Maalik
- Maa
- Chhorii 2
- Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri
- Nadaaniyan
- Azaad
- War 2
