‘The ‘Burbs’ Trailer Sees Keke Palmer Play a Nosy Neighborhood Sleuth in the Peacock Series Adaptation!!! Check It Out!!

For Keke Palmer, the only thing weirder than living in The ‘Burbs are the people who just moved there. The Nope star headlines a star-studded cast in a new trailer for Peacock‘s new adaptation of the 1989 cult classic film. Moving day is February 8; all eight episodes of the series will drop on the streamer simultaneously.

In the trailer, newly married couple Samira (Palmer) and Rob (Jack Whitehall, Bad Education) move into his old family home in the heart of suburbia: Ashfield Place, the so-called safest town in America. Right away, she’s freaked out by her oddball neighbors, including Julia Duffy (Newhart), Paula Pell (Girls5eva), Mark Proksch (What We Do in the Shadows), and Kapil Talwalkar (Night Court). But freakier still is the Victorian manse that’s allegedly a “murder house”…and the weirdos who’ve just moved into it. She and her new friends are going to get to the bottom of this mystery if it kills them…and it might. You’ll have to find out for yourself when The ‘Burbs premieres on Peacock next month.

Who Are the Creatives Behind ‘The ‘Burbs’?

In addition to the headlining cast, The ‘Burbs will also feature recurring appearances from Justin Kirk (Weeds), Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense), RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Randy Oglesby (Star Trek: Enterprise), Max Carver (Desperate Housewives), and Erica Dasher (Jane by Design). It was created by Celeste Hughey (Palm Royale), written by Rachel Shukert (The Baby-Sitters Club), and directed by Nzingha Stewart (Daisy Jones and the Six); they all executive produce with star Palmer, as well as Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy) and Brian Grazer, whose Imagine Entertainment produced the original film. Dana Olsen, who wrote the original film, co-executive produces.

The ‘Burbs is an adaptation of the 1989 Joe Dante film of the same name; it starred Tom Hanks and Carrie Fisher as Ray and Carol Peterson, a couple whose suburban bliss is disrupted by the arrival of a bizarre family of sinister recluses, the Klopeks (including The Blues Brothers‘ Henry Gibson and The Last Unicorn‘s Brother Theodore). Ray recruits his neighbors, including unhinged veteran Mark (Bruce Dern, Nebraska), nosy Art (Rick Ducommon, Groundhog Day), and teenage Ricky (Corey Feldman, Gremlins) to uncover whether the Klopeks are just weird…or murderers. The film was a moderate hit upon its release and has since become a cult classic.
