‘Elle’: ‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel Series Renewed for Season 2 Ahead of Summer Debut!!

Prime Video has already decided the fate of its Legally Blonde prequel series and also announced the first season’s release date. Prime Video confirmed this afternoon that the Legally Blonde show, Elle, starring Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods will begin streaming on July 1, and that the show had been renewed for Season 2, which is now in production. Season 1 will follow Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman that we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film starring Reese Witherspoon. Witherspoon is producing the new show at Prime Video.

Reese Witherspoon also shared a statement on both announcements, hyping up Minetree’s performance as Elle Woods and expressing her excitement to see where the show goes in Season 2:

“Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with. Discovering Lexi Minetree and watching her step into Elle’s fabulous shoes has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my career. Working with our incredible Hello Sunshine team, Amazon and our visionary writers and directors to bring Elle’s high school journey to life has been a tremendous joy. Amazon MGM Studios Head of Global Television Peter Friedlander also spoke to the decision to renew Elle for a second season before the arrival of the first, saying that “Ordering a second season speaks to our belief in the creative vision and the incredible team behind the series, and we’re excited for audiences to experience Elle’s journey starting with Season 1.”

In addition to Lexi Minetree as a young Elle Woods, Elle also stars June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother Eva, and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt, alongside Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker. Recurring cast members include Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek. The show was created for television by Laura Kittrell, who is also showrunning and producing with Witherspoon. The original Legally Blonde movie is streaming on MGM+.
