Today is a great day for Outlander fans, who have been treated to the best look yet at the eighth and final season of the hit fantasy series. Starz debuted the final trailer for Outlander Season 8 this afternoon ahead of its March 8 premiere. Outlander has captivated audiences around the world for over a decade now, and things are finally set to come to a head soon in what’s sure to be an emotional thrill ride of a finale. The first seven seasons of Outlander are streaming in their entirety on Starz, and they’re also available on digital platforms across the United States like Prime Video and Apple TV. Now is the best time to catch up on all the action before the final season arrives.
The series’ final trailer hints at heartwarming and heartbreaking moments for the Fraser family, with several familiar faces returning and reuniting. A devastating prophecy, in the form of Frank Randall’s book predicting Jamie’s death, shakes the family to the core. Knowing they’ve been unable to alter history in the past, the Frasers grapple with the question of whether Jamie’s fate is sealed. Starz has also released an official synopsis for Outlander Season 8:
“As Season Eight begins, Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together. While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.”
Is ‘Outlander’ Like ‘Game of Thrones’?
Outlander and Game of Thrones share some similarities, like their historical settings and mature themes, but they’re wildly different. Game of Thrones is more of a wide-spanning battle for power across multiple families and territories, and Outlander is a much more focused story centered around romance. Outlander follows a WWII nurse who travels back in time to Scotland in the 1700s as she meets a Highland warrior whom she quickly falls for. Season 8 stars Caitríona Balfe as Claire Fraser, Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser, Sophie Skelton as Brianna MacKenzie, Richard Rankin as Roger MacKenzie, John Bell as Young Ian Murray, David Berry as Lord John Grey, Charles Vandervaart as William Ransom, and Izzy Meikle-Small as Rachel Murray.
