Some shows arrive with a built-in fanbase, but still have to prove they can actually work on screen. That was always going to be the challenge for Cross, a series built around one of crime fiction’s most recognizable detectives. Prime Video’s thriller had the pressure of adapting a beloved character, delivering a compelling weekly mystery, and giving audiences a reason to keep coming back in an already crowded genre.

Now, after two strong seasons and a major global run, the streamer is officially keeping the story going. Cross has been renewed for Season 3 by Prime Video. According to the streamer, Season 1 drew 40 million viewers globally in its first 20 days and became the third most-watched premiere on the service in 2025. It also hit No. 1 on Prime Video in more than 100 countries. On top of that, Cross ranked in Nielsen’s Top 10 original series during the week of its Season 2 premiere. So it’s not a mystery as to why it was renewed.

The cast includes Aldis Hodge as Alex Cross, Isaiah Mustafa as John Sampson, Alona Tal as Kayla Craig, Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, Johnny Ray Gill, Jeanine Mason, Wes Chatham, and Matthew Lillard as Lance Durand.

“From the beginning, Cross has captivated audiences with its layered characters, pulse-pounding suspense, and emotionally grounded storytelling,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios. “Aldis Hodge has delivered a definitive portrayal of Alex Cross, anchoring the series with depth, intelligence, and heart.”

Is ‘Cross’ Worth Watching?

Collider’s review stated that Prime Video has quietly cornered the market on “guys with guns solving problems” TV — and while Cross fits neatly into that lane, it also tries to be something a little more thoughtful. After a solid but uneven first season, Nate Richard wrote that Cross returns with bigger ambitions, sharper visuals, and a story that leans even harder into real-world issues. The result is a second season that’s consistently watchable, occasionally gripping, but not quite as focused as it needs to be to truly stand out in an already crowded field.

Cross Season 2 also fixes some of its predecessor’s hiccups; the lighting is noticeably better this time around, and it’s never too difficult to tell what’s happening onscreen. For everything it does right, however, it also makes some questionable choices, including sidelining characters who made Season 1 so memorable. Season 2 is entertainingly paced, but outside its lead, nothing about it allows it to stand out from Prime Video‘s similar offerings. Despite the show’s return not living up to its full potential, I still want more Cross in the future, even if it’s largely more of Hodge‘s Alex Cross.
