‘Scooby-Doo’: Netflix’s Live-Action Series Sets Main Cast!!!

There are some franchises that never really go out of style, and Scooby-Doo is absolutely one of them. Every few years, Mystery Inc. comes back in a new form, and somehow the formula still works: a creepy mystery, a group of meddling teens, and one extremely memorable dog. Now Netflix is officially putting its own spin on the property. The streamer has locked in the four young stars who will bring the new live-action version of the Scooby gang to life.

Netflix’s untitled live-action Scooby-Doo series has cast Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Grace’s casting as Daphne had already been reported in February, but Netflix has now rounded out the rest of the core team for the origin story series. The official logline reads in full:

“A modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

The series comes from showrunners, writers, and executive producers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Adrienne Erickson, and Toby Haynes, who will also direct Episode 1.

What Other Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo’ Adaptations Have We Seen?

The 2002 and 2004 films are the big ones most people think of, starring Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, and Linda Cardellini as Velma. After that came the younger-skewing TV movie prequels Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins (2009) and Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster (2010). There was also the direct-to-video spin-off Daphne & Velma in 2018.
