Brie Larson is teaming up with the director of Netflix’s Enola Holmes for her next major film. Paramount Pictures has now set a theatrical release date for the project. The film gives the Marvel star another leading role outside the MCU.
One Italian Summer will hit theaters on May 12, 2028, timed for Mother’s Day weekend. According to Deadline, Larson will star as Katy in the adaptation of Rebecca Serle’s 2022 bestselling novel. Harry Bradbeer, who directed Netflix’s Enola Holmes films, is helming the project.

One Italian Summer follows Katy as she travels to Italy after losing her mother. Katy and her mother originally planned to take the trip together. After her mother’s death, the journey to the Amalfi Coast becomes even more emotional for Katy. However, her time there takes an unexpected turn.
Katy soon finds herself experiencing a surprising connection with her mother. The encounter gives her a chance to revisit their relationship while navigating her grief and adjusting to a new chapter in her life. The story explores themes of family, love, loss, and self-discovery.
Bradbeer gained recognition for directing Enola Holmes and its 2022 sequel, Enola Holmes 2. Both films starred Millie Bobby Brown as Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister. Following his work on the Netflix franchise, One Italian Summer adds another literary adaptation to his directing credits.
Larson is also serving as an executive producer of the film, alongside Serle and David Stone of TFC Productions. Temple Hill Entertainment will produce the film.
Apart from her work in the MCU, Larson has appeared in Lessons in Chemistry and The Bear. She also voiced Princess Rosalina in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Her upcoming projects include Close Personal Friends and Skeletons.
With Larson leading the cast and Bradbeer behind the camera, One Italian Summer is shaping up as another notable literary adaptation.
