A new TV spot for The Mandalorian and Grogu has revealed a key debut that connects to earlier Star Wars stories. The latest preview offers a brief look at new elements in the upcoming film while holding back full context around their role in the narrative.

The Mandalorian and Grogu gets new TV spot

A new TV spot for The Mandalorian and Grogu has been released, revealing Marrok, an Anooba previously seen in The Clone Wars episode Bounty, in live-action for the first time.

The footage features new action beats alongside Grogu moments, including him tapping Din Djarin’s helmet as they escape an exploding AT-AT. The preview also shows four Anzellans accompanying Grogu during the mission.

New stills from the film depict sequences set on Hoth and show Din Djarin and Grogu both together and apart. The material indicates Grogu plays a more proactive role, with portions of the story showing him operating independently after Din is captured and unmasked. The footage suggests a shift in how the duo functions within the narrative.

Jon Favreau addressed the use of Din’s helmet, stating, “It’s a tricky thing, because you want to see his face, but the archetype is that of the helmet.” He added, “You’ll see [Pedro] in the armour, both with and without the helmet.” Pedro Pascal said, “When we got to that part, all I can say is that it made perfect sense” (via Empire).

Recent marketing confirms multiple antagonistic threats, with the characters encountering “Gangsters, war criminals, and monsters.” The story takes place after the fall of the Empire. Imperial warlords remain scattered across the galaxy. The New Republic works to protect its interests. It enlists Din Djarin and Grogu to confront these dangers.

Jon Favreau directs the film. It stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White. Ludwig Göransson composes the score. Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce produce the project.

The film arrives in theaters and IMAX on May 22.
