Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) better watch out, because it looks like Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is going to be the MCU show’s biggest one yet. Season 2 of the smash-hit Disney+ series just recently kicked off, but following an early Season 3 renewal, Charlie Cox‘s return as Matt Murdock is already all but assured. That’s great news for fans who famously campaigned to save the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen after Disney and Marvel Studios‘ partnership with Netflix came to a close, cutting short not just Charlie Cox‘s gritty and hugely beloved take on Daredevil, but also all of the other Netflix-era Marvel shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders.
The original Daredevil series went strong for three incredible seasons, but Season 1 was but the fuze that lit the match for an extensive subsection of the MCU. Following Season 1 of the gritty crime drama, the trend of prestige-level Marvel shows continued with the detective intrigue of Jessica Jones, the culturally charged Luke Cage, the action-packed Iron Fist, the hyper violent The Punisher, and finally with the ambitious crossover The Defenders, which brought most of those shows’ lead characters together for an Avengers-equivalent event. Daredevil: Born Again already reunited Matt Murdock with Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) in Season 1 and is confirmed to reteam with his fellow Defender Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) later in Season 2, but Season 3 is now expected to tie the universe together once again in a massive way.
Jon Bernthal‘s The Punisher has a long history with Daredevil, but Krysten Ritter‘s debut in Born Again Season 2 clearly opens the door to other Netflix characters returning, and according to Entertainment Weekly, that appears to be happening. The news outlet shared an apparent image from the set of Daredevil: Born Again‘s upcoming third season in New York City that features Krysten Ritter, fully dressed in character as her iconic superpowered private eye, walking alongside Luke Cage star Mike Colter and Iron Fist lead Finn Jones. Both Colter and Jones are wearing pitch black hoods, a common tactic used on high-profile productions like this to keep yet-to-be-announced cast members under wraps, which all but assures their characters’ returns in Born Again Season 3.
Who Are Luke Cage and Iron Fist?
Luke Cage and Iron Fist seemingly returning at the same time hardly seems like a coincidence, as the two Marvel characters are famously an inseparable duo in the comics as the “Heroes for Hire.” Mike Colter’s Luke Cage first appeared as a love interest for Jessica Jones in Season 1 of her Netflix series, before he got his own popular spin-off series in 2016. After being illegally subjected to a dangerous experiment, Luke Cage is given virtually unbreakable skin and superhuman strength, which he uses to protect his beseiged community in Harlem. The show quickly made Mike Colter a fan-favorite among Marvel fans, and just last week, Colter told Collider‘s Maggie Lovitt that he’d “like to come back and do more stuff with Luke Cage” after hearing from fans and even Charlie Cox himself.
Meanwhile, Finn Jones‘ journey as the Immortal Iron Fist is quite different. When a devastating plane crash leaves young Danny Rand’s parents dead and the billionaire heir stranded in Tibet, the boy is taken in by the monks of the mythical city of K’un-lun. Training for over a decade under the monks’ tutelage, Danny Rand becomes an expert martial artist and earns K’un-lun’s most respected title as the Iron Fist — the supernatural warrior who protects the city from all external threats. However, Danny soon becomes torn between his new life and his old one when he returns to New York for some unfinished business and eventually joins a team of vigilantes alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, who are all seemingly reuniting for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.
The first three episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 are streaming now on Disney+, with Season 3 currently in production.
