‘Longlegs’: Nicolas Cage to Star in & Produce New Follow-Up!!

Before he swings through New York City in Spider-Noir and commentates on historic football plays with Madden, Nicolas Cage has a massive new project on the horizon. A new report has officially confirmed that Nicolas Cage will star in and produce a brand-new film set in the world of Longlegs: the smash-hit supernatural crime thriller that shattered records for independent horror films thanks to a wildly successful viral marketing campaign. The film served as the breakout horror hit for director Osgood Perkins, who is also confirmed to be writing, producing, and directing the newest chapter of the Longlegs saga, officially making it a new horror franchise. Additionally, Paramount has picked up the rights to the upcoming chapter and is expected to distribute the terrifying new installment.

Released in 2024, the breakout horror hit from Perkins starred Cage as the titular villain, Longlegs — an eccentric demon-worshipping serial killer who offers his victims to a shadowy supernatural entity. Longlegs’ crimes eventually lead to him being pursued by FBI Agent Lee Harker (played by veteran scream queen Maika Monroe), who soon discovers that this is no ordinary homicidal maniac. Monroe is not currently involved in the follow-up film, and the new report also confirms that the upcoming new project from Cage and Perkins will not be a direct sequel to the 2024 film. That makes perfect sense, considering the fate of Cage‘s character in the original movie, so the new film could be a prequel of sorts that chronicles what Longlegs was up to before he met Agent Harker. Horror prequels are something of a hot topic right now, as Zach Cregger is currently working on a Weapons prequel following Amy Madigan‘s Oscar-winning villain.

The Nicolas Cage-aisssance Continues in 2026

Nicolas Cage has never really stopped working, but the fan-favorite movie star has been having a colossal pop culture resurgence thanks to hit movies like Pig, Dream Scenario, and, of course, Longlegs. 2026 in particular is one of Cage‘s biggest in years, starting with his starring role in the first-ever live-action Spider-Man series, Spider-Noir, where he’ll play a much grittier version of his fan-favorite Spider-Verse character. After that, Cage will also star in the David Mamet-scripted family drama The Prince and will play legendary sports icon John Madden in David O. Russell‘s ambitious new biopic. Looking beyond just this year, Cage has also been reportedly tapped to star in the next season of True Detective, will return for the star-studded sequel Lords of War, and is expected to reprise his voice role as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Nicolas Cage‘s Longlegs follow-up is in development now.
