Taylor Sheridan has so many shows in orbit now that it takes a lot for one of them to feel like a genuine event right out of the gate. The Madison managed it anyway. The Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell-led drama arrived with the usual curiosity that follows anything Sheridan touches, but it pretty quickly became clear this one was hitting on a different level. Between the emotional family angle, the Montana backdrop, and the star power at the center of it, the show found an audience fast. And before viewers have even gotten a Season 2 date, Paramount+ is already looking further ahead.
Paramount+ has officially renewed The Madison for a third season. The renewal follows a major debut for the series, which launched on March 14 and pulled in 8 million global views for its premiere episode in its first 10 days on the service. Paramount also said the show is Sheridan’s most-watched debut ever. The numbers behind that breakout are pretty huge. Paramount said The Madison was the No. 1 original season by views among streaming originals during its first week of release, March 13 through March 19, according to Luminate. The studio also said the series is set to debut on Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 chart as a top-five original with nearly 1 billion minutes viewed for the week of March 16 through March 22.
The series stars Pfeiffer and Russell, and follows a family moving between two very different worlds, bonded by tragedy. Alongside them, the series features Beau Garrett, Elle Chapman, Patrick J. Adams, Amiah Miller, Alaina Pollack, Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, Rebecca Spence, Danielle Vasinova, Matthew Fox, and Will Arnett.
How Good Is ‘The Madison’?
In his review for Collider, writer Aidan Kelley stated that while The Madison may come from the creator of some of television’s most bingeable and thrilling dramas, he felt that Sheridan’s newest series is a lot more reflective and measured, and definitely intimate. Although Sheridan’s writing is better known for the violent cartoonish characters of Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown, the prolific scribe proves his worth with a story that trades all that for a deeply personal exploration of grief and family. Kelley wrote:
“Sheridan has historically found tremendous success by telling stories that appeal to a wide variety of age groups, geographic regions (mainly in the U.S.), and political backgrounds. The Madison may have a cowboy or two and take place in Montana, but it’s Sheridan’s biggest step out of his comfort zone yet. Because of that, the show undoubtedly isn’t going to appeal to everyone, but if you’re willing to get past a slower pace in the earliest episodes and see this gripping character drama through, then The Madison is a must-watch.”
