2026 is shaping up to be a massive year for Quentin Tarantino, who hasn’t directed a feature film since 2019, following the release of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Tarantino may not return to the director’s chair this year, but he did write the script for a movie that’s already wrapped production and confirmed to air before the end of the year. Tarantino penned the screenplay for the sequel to Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, which stars Brad Pitt. Leonardo DiCaprio will not return and reprise his role as Rick Dalton, but Tarantino has enlisted David Fincher to direct the new period epic, which is coming to Netflix this Fall. The first-look images of the film surfaced online a few weeks ago following the first trailer from the Super Bowl.
Fans everywhere are still asking questions about Tarantino’s final film, and while today may not be the day we learn anything about it, there is another exciting Tarantino-adjacent project confirmed to be in the works. News broke this afternoon that Sony Pictures has enlisted Brian Helgeland to write the script for a Django/Zorro crossover film based on the popular crossover comic written by Tarantino and Matt Wagner. The comic was first published back in 2014, and at the time, it was the closest Tarantino had been to a true sequel — the Oscar-winning director is famously against continuations. While Tarantino isn’t expected to direct the new Django/Zorro crossover film, it’s being reported that the project has his full support, and also that Sony will inevitably be where he makes his final movie.
What Is ‘Django Unchained’ About?
The official synopsis for Django Unchained reads as follows:
“Two years before the Civil War, Django (Jamie Foxx), a slave, finds himself accompanying an unorthodox German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) on a mission to capture the vicious Brittle brothers. Their mission successful, Schultz frees Django, and together they hunt the South’s most-wanted criminals. Their travels take them to the infamous plantation of shady Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), where Django’s long-lost wife (Kerry Washington) is still a slave.”
Django Unchained won two Oscars, including one to Tarantino for his original screenplay and another to Christoph Waltz for his performance as Dr. King Schultz. The film grossed $426 million at the box office against a $100 million budget, and it’s currently available to stream on Paramount+ or Starz.
