Housebound horror movies often involve restless spirits or demonic forces. This summer, Netflix is offering a new, science fiction twist on the genre. Formerly known as 11817, the film, which stars Greta Lee and Oscar nominee Wagner Moura, has a new title and a new release date.
Netflix‘s 11817 is now titled The Last House. In the new science fiction chiller, Lee and Moura star as a couple who suddenly find themselves unable to leave their house. They and their children must try to survive their rapidly diminishing resources and the terrifying, otherworldly threat that’s keeping them trapped inside. Lee teased the plot last year in an interview with Collider‘s Steve Weintraub, saying:
“It’s a family, yes. It’s a regular day. Imagine it’s like any other day, except the moment you open the door to try to leave the house, you find you cannot leave, and then six years pass. […] You’re trying to survive inside your home for six years.”
The film also stars Riley Chung (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Emma Ho (The Expanse), Alexander Noah Sosnowski (Section 8), and Gabriel Barbosa (May December). What terrible force is trapping this family, and can they escape? You’ll have to tune into Netflix on August 7 when The Last House opens its doors. In addition to the release date, you can get a first look at the film below.
What Have Wagner Moura and Greta Lee Been Working on Lately?
Coming off his Best Actor Oscar nomination for The Secret Agent, Moura can currently be heard on the Disney+ Star Wars animated series Maul: Shadow Lord; he plays a police officer who gets mixed up with the ambitions of Sith Lord turned crime lord Darth Maul. He also stars in The Last Day, the directorial debut of artist Rachel Rose; he’ll appear alongside Alicia Vikander and Victoria Pedretti. He has also recently signed on to appear with Kristen Stewart in Panos Cosmatos‘ new horror film Flesh of the Gods. Lee also has a prominent voice role on the horizon; she’ll star in Toy Story 5 as the voice of Lilypad, the high-tech tablet that threatens to render toys obsolete. She’s also planning to make her screenwriting and directorial debut with The Eyes Are the Best Part, an adaptation of the 2024 horror novel of the same name.
The Last House is directed by Louis Leterrier (Fast X) and written by Matthew Robinson (Love and Monsters). Leterrier also produces alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kori Adelson, and Oly Obst. Executive producers include Thomas Benski, Cecile Gaget, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, and Damian Anderson.
The Last House will be released on Netflix on August 7.
