Helena Bonham Carter made an early departure from The White Lotus last week, leaving the series before production fully began. Now, the vacancy she left has been filled. The Oscar and Emmy-winning star replacing her is no stranger to creator Mike White…or to The White Lotus.
According to reports, Laura Dern will join the cast of the fourth season of the HBO hit, which is now filming in France. It won’t be the first time the Jurassic Park legend worked with White: she was the lead on his acclaimed but short-lived HBO series Enlightened. It won’t, in fact, even be her first time on The White Lotus. Dern had an uncredited, voice-only cameo on two episodes of the show’s second, Italy-set season; she voiced Abby, the long-suffering wife of philandering Hollywood producer Dominic Di Grasso (Michael Imperioli). It’s possible, but unlikely, that she’s playing the same role. It’s the latest project in what has been a busy few years for Dern; last year, she appeared in the films Caught Stealing, Jay Kelly, and Is This Thing On?, and starred in the second and final season of Apple TV‘s Palm Royale. Next, she’s slated to star alongside Molly Gordon and Emma Mackey in the high school reunion comedy Peaked.
Who Else Stars in Season 4 of ‘The White Lotus’?
In addition to Dern, the new season will also star Sandra Bernhard (The King of Comedy), Steve Coogan (I’m Alan Patridge), Caleb Jonte Edwards (Black Snow), Ari Graynor (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Marissa Long (The Old Breed), Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games), Chris Messina (The Mindy Project), AJ Michalka (The Goldbergs), Dylan Ennis (Invertigo), Vincent Cassel (The Shrouds), Corentin Fila (Wolf Hall), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley), Max Greenfield (New Girl), Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Charlie Hall (Single Drunk Female), Jarrad Paul (Chad), Nadia Tereszkiewicz (Babysitter), Heather Graham (The Hangover), Frida Gustavsson (Vikings: Valhalla), Rosie Perez (The Flight Attendant), Ben Schnetzer (The Madison), and Laura Smet (Towards Zero).
Each season of The White Lotus spotlights a disparate group of travellers vacationing at the fictional White Lotus chain of luxury resorts. Previous seasons have taken place in Hawaii, Italy, and Thailand; season 4 will be filmed in St. Tropez, Paris, and Monaco. This season will also take a detour to the Cannes Film Festival.
Season 4 of The White Lotus is now in production; no release date has yet been announced.
