Few action franchises have delivered as many consistent hits as Fast & Furious, which has built one of the biggest fan bases in the world. Fans have proven time and time again that they will show up to theaters to see stars like Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham bash skulls while driving some of the sleekest cars you can find. Vin Diesel launched the Fast & Furious franchise all the way back in 2001 with his friend Paul Walker, and while it may have started as more of a racing-centric series of movies, things have taken a more absurd turn in recent years. Fast X, the 2023 blockbuster that cost $350 million to make, took several of its characters to space, so there’s no telling where the final installment will go when it launches in 2028.
While Diesel and Universal have confirmed that Fast Forever will be the franchise’s final movie in its main saga, the Fast & Furious story is far from over. Diesel took the stage during an NBCUniversal upfront presentation, and he confirmed that not one, but four Fast & Furious TV shows are in the works at Peacock. It’s not expected at this time that Diesel will star in any of the shows, but he will executive produce and could cameo in the future. All four shows are in various stages of development, but the pilot for the primary series is being written by Mike Daniels, who also penned the pilot for NBC’s new Rockford Files show. Plot specifics and additional details are still being kept under wraps at the time of the announcement, as well as any potential release windows — the shows are unlikely to air before Fast Forever, which is coming on March 17, 2028.
What Do We Know About the Next ‘Fast & Furious’ Movie?
Other than the title, Fast Forever, little is known about the 11th and final Fast & Furious movie at this time. Production is expected to start this summer and run through most of the year, with most original cast members returning. Even Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are expected to star as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw in the film, marking their return to the franchise following their 2019 spin-off adventure, Hobbs & Shaw. Louis Leterrier is directing Fast Forever with a script from Christina Hodson and Michael Lesslie.
