Ladies and gentlemen, the dream is over. The crossover we’ve all wanted for what seems like a generation (or probably more like 5 years) has been officially ruled out following the news that Netflix is surprisingly ending one of its most popular and enduring crime shows. Despite four seasons of smash hit viewing and critical acclaim, the curtain call has begun for Mickey Haller and his mobile legal practice.
Netflix has confirmed that The Lincoln Lawyer will end with its upcoming fifth season. The legal drama, starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, is currently filming in Los Angeles, with the final 10 episodes inspired by Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in Michael Connelly‘s Lincoln Lawyer series. And that means we’re never going to get that proper Netflix crossover with Prime Video‘s Bosch and Titus Welliver. Why? Well, for those unaware, Bosch and Haller are half-brothers in Connelly‘s novels and it’s long been a dream for fans to see them cross paths.
The cast of The Lincoln Lawyer also includes Becki Newton (Ugly Betty, How I Met Your Mother) as Lorna, Jazz Raycole (Jericho, My Wife and Kids) as Izzy, Angus Sampson (Mad Max: Fury Road, Insidious) as Cisco, and Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, The Avengers) as Emi. Season 5’s new recurring cast includes Nate Corddry (The Testaments, For All Mankind) as Jimmy Finch, Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica, Lucifer) as Brooke Miller, Amy Aquino (Bosch, Being Human) as Judge Olivia Alcott, Angela Trimbur (Search Party, The Final Girls) as Felicia, Elpidia Carrillo (Blue Beetle, Predator) as Muriel Perez, and Keir O’Donnell (High Desert, Wedding Crashers) as DDA Lucas Peralta.
The final season is also adding several previously announced guest stars, including Chris Diamantopoulos, Corbin Bernsen, Diane Guerrero, Iker Garcia, Patty Guggenheim, Richard Cabral, Steve Howey, and Teresa Maria. Returning recurring guest stars include Neve Campbell, Krista Warner, Angelica Maria, and Gigi Zumbado.
Was ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Canceled?
The creative team behind the show are framing it more as a choice they’ve made, but then why would you end a good thing when there are more stories to tell? Series creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer Ted Humphrey and co-showrunner and executive producer Dailyn Rodriguez (those titles are a mouthful) released a joint statement expressing gratitude for the five seasons they got.
“All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us,” Humphrey and Rodriguez said. “From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion. And while it is of course bittersweet, it’s also an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future.”
They added, “We are immensely grateful to Netflix and A+E Studios for the opportunity to land this plane the right way. But most of all, we are grateful to the fans all around the world for watching and supporting the show. We promise you, we are right now building a final season that will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves. We can’t wait to share it with you!”
