‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’ Wraps Filming; Reveals First Look at Franchise’s New Villain!! Check It Out!!

The Blue Blur is on his way back and he’s about to face his biggest threat yet. Director Jeff Fowler has taken to social media to announce that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has officially wrapped production, just two months after starting (please take note, all blockbusters, for this is how it’s done) and in doing so, shown us a first look at Metal Sonic, the newest threat to the happiness of Green Hills, Sonic, and the rest of his buds. Production began in March 2026, with Fowler previously marking the start of filming by sharing a behind-the-scenes look at Amy Rose’s Piko Piko hammer.

The character was already teased in the mid-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where Amy Rose saved Sonic from an army of Metal Sonics, and the fourth movie’s expected to weave in elements from Sonic CD, one of the many, many games released in the 1990s. Metal Sonic is one of Sonic’s most memorable adversaries because, like Shadow, he’s essentially a duplicate of Sonic except he’s cold, mechanical, unfeeling, and there’s the potential for a lot more of him. Metal Sonic also provides a much more physical threat than the likes of Dr Robotnik, who is, of course, bumbling and hapless, like Wile E. Coyote if Acme happened to be a successful technology company.

The cast of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies include Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, The Afterparty) as Sonic, Jim Carrey (The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Kristen Bell (Frozen, Veronica Mars) as Amy Rose, Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Sonic Prime, Digimon Adventure) as Miles “Tails” Prower, Idris Elba (Luther, The Suicide Squad) as Knuckles, Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix) as Shadow, James Marsden (X-Men, Jury Duty) as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter (Southside with You, Mixed-ish) as Maddie Wachowski, and Lee Majdoub (The 100, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency) as Agent Stone.
