
The God of the Woods dominated the bestseller lists in 2024. Now, the acclaimed crime thriller is coming to Netflix, in the form of a new miniseries. A bevy of new cast members have joined the series, which is now in production.
Joining previously-announced lead actors Maya Hawke and Kerry Condon in The God of the Woods are a bevy of acclaimed actors. In lead roles are Tracy Letts (Ford v Ferrari), John Gallagher Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane), Lola Kirke (Sinners) and Colton Ryan (The Girl From Plainville). In supporting roles are Camila Canó-Flaviá (Three Women), Tristan Leander Green (The Bard), Cliff Chamberlain (The Rip), Lynden Miles Ley (Birth/Rebirth), Dannie McCallum (Echo), Andrew Polk (The Marvelous Mrs Maisel), Chris Henry Coffey (The Madness), David Furr (The Gilded Age), Joseph Adams (Zero Day) and Brooklyn Shuck (Evil). The series is now in production, but no release date has yet been announced.
What Is ‘The God of the Woods’ About?
The God of the Woods centers around the Van Laar family, the most powerful and influential clan in the Adirondack Mountains. However, all that begins to unravel when 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar disappears from summer camp, and the subsequent investigation begins to uncover all the terrible secrets the family had worked so hard to keep buried. Barbara isn’t the first Van Laar child to mysteriously vanish, and the deeper the investigation digs, the more it’s going to hurt. Hawke (Stranger Things) will star as Judy Luptack, the lone female detective from a male-dominated agency who’s assigned to investigate the disappearance; Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) plays Alice Van Laar, Barbara’s grief-stricken mother. Other previously-announced cast members include Damon Gupton (Bates Motel), Ella Rubin (Sterling Point, The Idea of You), Susannah Perkins (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Benjamin Walker (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Nell Fisher (Evil Dead Rise) and Autumn Molina (The Lost Bus).
The God of the Woods is adapted from Liz Moore‘s novel; Moore (Long Bright River) will co-showrun and co-write the series with Liz Hannah (Mindhunter). Moore and Hannah also executive produce alongside Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty for Original Film. It is a production of Sony Pictures Television.
