‘The Ninth Jedi’ Trailer Sees ‘Star Wars: Visions’ Fan-Favorite Returns as a Full Anime Series!! Check It Out!!

2026 has been one of the more exciting years for Star Wars fans in recent history, as it’s the first time since 2019 that the franchise has released a movie to the big screen. After its years of development, it’s safe to say there was some anticipation for The Mandalorian and Grogu, but the hype didn’t carry over to box office results. At the time of writing, the film has grossed $328 million at the global box office, and it’s expected to finish its run as the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie in history. It was a completely different story for Maul — Shadow Lord, the first Star Wars Disney Plus show of the year that earned widespread acclaim from critics and fans. Disney has already confirmed that Season 2 is in the works and that the wait for the next season won’t be overly long.

Another Star Wars Disney Plus show that was expected to be released this year was Ahsoka Season 2, but it was confirmed not long ago that this had been pushed back to early 2027. However, there is another show that’s now been confirmed for release later this year, which is The Ninth Jedi, the anime spin-off from the two episodes of the same name from the first and third seasons from Star Wars: Visions. Disney dropped the first trailer for the show this afternoon after the first episode of the show was previewed today during Anime Expo, the convention being held in Los Angeles, California. Kenji Kamiyama, who wrote both Visions episodes that inspired the spin-off, is back to work on the spin-off series as supervising director and producer.

When Does the Next Star Wars Movie Come Out?

After The Mandalorian and Grogu, fans won’t have to wait another seven years for the next Star Wars movie to hit theaters. Arriving on the big screen on May 28, 2027, is Star Wars: Starfighter, which is an original Star Wars story featuring new characters. Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool & Wolverine, is directing the new Star Wars feature with a script from Jonathan Tropper, writer of the Apple TV series, Your Friends and Neighbors. Lucasfilm has assembled an all-time roster of talent for the Starfighter cast, including Ryan Gosling, Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray, and more.
