We’re only just past the halfway point in 2026, but Star Wars fans have already had two projects to enjoy. The first Star Wars Disney Plus show of the year, Maul — Shadow Lord, won the hearts of fans and critics around the world, largely due to the commanding but endearing performance of Sam Witwer as the Dark Side Force user. Disney has already renewed the show for Season 2, and it’s still hanging around in the top 10 in a few countries around the world. The first Star Wars movie in seven years didn’t find the same level of success as its Disney Plus predecessor — The Mandalorian and Grogu is expected to finish its run as the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie in history. There are more projects coming this year that have a chance to right the ship, though.

It comes as no surprise to Star Wars fans that the franchise has quite a presence at San Diego Comic-Con, and the LucasFilm Publishing panel held this afternoon was full of exciting announcements. LucasFilm publishing has a history of expanding overlooked corners of the Star Wars franchise, and next up on the list to get an expansion is The Book of Boba Fett. The first season of the Temuera Morrison-led show aired all the way back in 2021, and despite Morrison pushing for a Season 2, Disney has seemingly decided that the show’s first season will also be its only season. However, the show is getting a continuation in the form of a new comic book, Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, which arrives on shelves everywhere this August.

What Is ‘Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett’ About?

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett is a new seven-issue series written by Star Wars veterans Rodney Barnes (Han Solo – Hunt for the Falcon, Ahsoka) and Will Sliney (Rise of Kylo Ren). In the new series, Boba Fett holds court of Tatooine and faces new challenges after escaping from the Sarlacc pit and taking over Jabba the Hutt’s crime syndicate. The new series will also feature the debut of characters such as Garsa Fwip, Dokk Strassi, Mok Shaiz’s majordomo, and more. Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett will show the original Star Wars bounty hunter as he faces his most daring challenge yet: keeping Tatooine in order.
