Paramount Pictures and Legendary have released a special Street Fighter clip. The new footage unleashes Jason Momoa’s wildest role as Blanka, which feels like a more raging and yet best version of the long-time character in the franchise.
The new footage opens up with M.Bison (David Dastmalchian) putting Andrew Koji‘s Ryu in a cage fight, forcing him to prove his fighting strength. This is when Ryu comes face to face with Blanka, a wild beast being dragged into the arena by a group of prisoners. However, Blanka doesn’t stay restrained for long, throwing his captors aside and using his signature electric ability before jumping into the arena.
Before it turns more dangerous, Ryu tries to avoid the fight by saying, “I Don’t want to fight you.” In return, Blanka replies, “Then you die.” The two then immediately engage in fast-paced combat that highlights their fighting abilities. While Ryu uses his signature Hadoken energy attack, Momoa takes center stage with his overpowered strength and animal-like aggression.
Why Jason Momoa and Andrew Koji raise hopes for Street Fighter
Street Fighter has been adapted twice for the big screen. Neither of them fully captured the spirit of Capcom‘s fighting game series, leaving many disappointed. However, Jason Momoa‘s and Andrew Koji’s roles are already shaping up the new movie’s outlook.
Momoa brings an erratic, larger-than-life energy to Blanka that makes the character feel unfeigned rather than a graphic-type version. Meanwhile, Koji’s grounded, martial-arts style gives Ryu the emotional impact that makes it feel that there’s more to the story. Both personalities indicate the film captures the essence of a long-running fighting franchise with its wide range of fighting abilities.
Street Fighter also casts Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Orville Peck as Vega, among many others. Kitao Sakurai is directing the movie from a story by Dalan Musson and Gary Dauberman.
Street Fighter arrives in theaters on October 16, 2026.
