‘The Final Girl Support Group’: Director Christopher Landon to Helm Grady Hendrix Adaptation!!

Adaptations continue to prove hugely popular. Earlier this year, Ryan Gosling‘s new sci-fi masterpiece Project Hail Mary, an adaptation of the 2021 novel by Andy Weir, earned $682 million worldwide and widespread acclaim, even being called the “first great film of 2026” in a 9/10 review from Collider‘s Ross Bonaime. On the small screen, adaptations also reign supreme, with it recently documented that I Will Find You, the latest Netflix adaptation of a Harlan Coben novel and the streamer’s 13th thus far, scored a place among Netflix’s 10 most-popular English-language TV series of all time with 101.9 million views.

So what’s next on the adaptation agenda? It was recently revealed by Deadline that Grady Hendrix‘s book The Final Girl Support Group, which won the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Horror Novel of 2021, was getting the big-screen treatment courtesy of Paramount Pictures. This comes after HBO had initially set up plans for a streaming series based on the novel, with The Odyssey‘s Charlize Theron attached. Now, the adaptation has instead moved to Paramount, with Hendrix’s New York Times bestseller one of his most famous novels. The writer has also penned the likes of Horrorstör, We Sold Our Souls, and How To Sell a Haunted House.

So, who is attached to direct this horror novel with a 3.49 rating on GoodReads? That privilege is being handed to Christopher Landon, a prolific horror director who most recently directed the mystery thriller Drop and wrote and produced the rom-com slasher Heart Eyes in 2025, with the latter earning a sequel. Landon was also part of several films in the Paranormal Activity franchise, and is also known for writing and directing the Happy Death Day franchise, which has a third movie in development.

This Isn’t the First Time Landon and Hendrix Have United

Landon has already produced one of Hendrix‘s novels, teaming up with writer Jenna Lamia and director Damon Thomas on 2022’s My Best Friend’s Exorcism. Made for Prime Video and released in September 2022, this supernatural horror comedy was based on Hendrix‘s 2016 novel of the same name and starred Elsie Fisher, who is best known as the voice of Agnes in the Despicable Me franchise.
