‘Spaceship Earth’: Disney’s Most Iconic Ride Is Getting the Series Treatment!!

Disney has no shortage of iconic rides across its many theme parks, and some of those rides have become so popular that they’ve even inspired several adaptations. By far the most famous of these is the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which became a blockbuster success and is now 5 movies deep, with a long-developing sixth installment still on the way. Other, and frankly, less successful attempts to turning Disney‘s many rides into feature films include Dwayne Johnson‘s Jungle Cruise, Brad Bird‘s Tomorrowland, and not one, but two attempts to adapt The Haunted Mansion for the big screen.

One place that hasn’t had as many adaptations on the big screen is the TV and streaming place, but that’s about to change. Today, Disney+ officially ordered a pilot episode for a new sci-fi series based on the EPCOT landmark attraction “Spaceship Earth.” Not only that, but the series already has a dynamite creative team on board, including IT: Welcome to Derry‘s Jason Fuchs as showrunner, Loki‘s Michael Waldron as executive producer, and You‘s Lee Toland Krieger as the pilot’s director. 20th Television will also serve as the pilot’s home studio.

An opening day attraction for EPCOT when the theme park first opened in 1982, “Spaceship Earth” is located inside the park’s gargantuan silver sphere that also doubles as its central landmark. Inside the sphere, the ride takes guests on a sci-fi journey across space and time for an educational trip through humanity’s technological innovations. According to the show’s first plot details, the Spaceship Earth series will follow a young group of teenagers from across various points in both the past and the future as they team up to try and stop a universe-ending catastrophe.

Disney+ Will Showcase Its Biggest Upcoming Releases at the 2026 D23 Expo

The announcement of the Spaceship Earth adaptation comes at an interesting time, as Disney is set to showcase its wide slate of movies, shows, video games, and more at the upcoming D23 Expo taking place in Anaheim, California from August 14–16. There, the House of Mouse is expected to share new looks at a wide variety of content across its many IPs, including but not limited to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, Ryan Gosling‘s Star Wars: Starfighter, Pixar‘s Incredibles 3, and much, much more. Of course, Disney+ fans are also expecting updates for series like Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3, and Ahsoka Season 2.
