‘The Paper’ Season 2 Trailer Teases Bigger Stories & Bigger Trouble!! Check It Out!!

Drama remains king in the streaming age, but 2025 was also a stellar year for television comedy. From the Emmy-winning standout The Studio starring Seth Rogen to long-running favorites like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, there was no lack of laughter-inducing programs available that scratched the itch for both prestige and comfort watches. Among the most underrated, however, was Peacock‘s return to the world of The Office with its Toledo-set spin-off, The Paper. Despite the odds stacked against it as a follow-up to one of the greatest sitcoms ever to grace the small screen, Domhnall Gleeson led his intrepid news underdogs to solid reviews, a massive audience, and a swift Season 2 renewal. Now, the second issue of the Toledo Truth Teller is almost here.

Season 2 arrives in full on September 9, and with it comes bigger, bolder, and more dangerous stories for Ned Sampson (Gleeson) and his team to cover. Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, the first run followed the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch to the office of the Truth Teller, which had fallen on hard times. With print news going out of style, the once-historic Midwestern rag had become a shell of its former glory, until Ned arrived and helped revive the paper to sweep the Ohio Journalism Awards. Not satisfied with just one big win, he’s determined to continue the failing newspaper’s turnaround, but in searching for his next crusade, breaking the news may wind up breaking the team.

Ahead of the premiere, Peacock has released the official trailer, teasing some exciting new ventures for the TTT team. Ned is eager to find some more award-winning stories, but Toledo isn’t exactly bustling with activity, so the ever-maturing journalists need to really put their noses to the grindstone. That means coming after local private clubs, accidentally contaminating bodies while examining them at the morgue, and going on storm chases, even though their vehicles aren’t equipped to pursue tornadoes. While the team continues growing and bonding, their boss also explores his relationship with Mare (Chelsea Frei), much to HR’s approval, and Esmeralda (Sabrina Impacciatore) seeks a place of her own in the office. Of course, Oscar (Oscar Nuñez) is still around quietly being the most competent man in the office when he’s not taking his sleepy blend.

‘The Paper’s Regulars Return to the Office in Season 2

Both Daniels and Koman still hold the reins as co-showrunners for Season 2, with the same staff reporting for duty, including Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Tim Key, Ramona Young, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., and Alex Edelman. They’ll be joined by a few new guests this time around, including Jon Lovitz, Andy Richter, Lisa Gilroy, Matt Braunger, Toks Olagundoye, and Phil Hendrie. Although the series got off to a solid start, this will be a chance for the series to grow and better define its own identity separate but still adjacent to The Office. Collider‘s Ross Bonaime gave Season 1 an 8/10 in his review at the time, writing, “The Paper is still trying to figure itself out, but it’s on its way to becoming something great.”
