‘Winter’: First Image Sees Richard Armitage Lead a New British Police Procedural!! Check It Out!!

Recently, it was announced that the latest in a long line of collaborations between Netflix and acclaimed author Harlan Coben, I Will Find You, had hit a huge milestone. The series became one of Netflix‘s top ten most-watched English original scripted shows of all time, dethroning Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson‘s hit thriller His & Hers, and cementing Coben‘s name as one of the most popular on the platform, especially in the shadow of other hits including Stay Close, The Stranger, Fool Me Once, or the more recent Missing You.

For Coben fans, I Will Find You has a bit of everything, except, perhaps, a role for his most-frequent collaborator, Richard Armitage. But fear not, as a new Armitage-led crime series perfect for Coben fans is on the way. The upcoming ITV police procedural Winter, based on the long-running French crime series Balthazar, stars Armitage alongside Annabel Scholey (Rivals) as an unconventional crime-solving duo: Forensic pathologist Dr Ethan Winter and DI Lauren Bell.

Ahead of the series’ arrival, fans have finally been given their first look at Ethan and Lauren in action, as they walk through an office in deep discussion about one of their puzzling cases. In total, the duo will solve six individual cases throughout the series, with each episode featuring its “own compelling, self-contained crime story, with resulting guest casting.” However, there is also set to be a linking plot thread throughout the series, surrounding an unsolved murder that haunts Ethan’s every move. A synopsis for the series reads:

“Set in Bristol, the series follows Dr Ethan Winter, one of the most gifted pathologists of his generation, whose analytical ability and instinct for reading victims make him an invaluable asset to murder investigations. His unorthodox, rule-breaking methods bring him into partnership with DI Lauren Bell, a meticulous and driven detective. Together, they form a formidable team, combining forensic insight with sharp investigative work to solve complex cases.”

Who Else Features in ‘Winter’?

Armitage and Scholey are two terrific actors with a catalog of great performances. Alone, they have the talent to lead this six-part procedural to success. However, every great mystery is solved by a team, with the pair backed by a strong supporting cast. This includes Jamie Kenna (House of the Dragon), Carlotta Banat (Heads of State), Josh Barrow (Hostage), Adwoa Akoto (The Sandman), Jay Taylor (Manhunt), Rishi Rian (Ridley), Deirdre Mullins (Bad Sisters), Ellis Elijah (Mammoth) and Evie Coles (The Lady Grace Mysteries).
