Amazon has found plenty of success with novel adaptations on Prime Video. One of 2026’s most defining movies is also one of Prime Video‘s biggest hits of the year, with the sci-fi masterpiece Project Hail Mary, based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir, earning 5.5 million views in its first three days in the U.S. In 2024, the record for the most successful international original series ever on Prime Video was broken by Maxton Hall — The World Between Us, an adaptation of Mona Kasten’s 2018 novel Save Me.
In Maxton Hall, after meeting the first person to be unimpressed by his wealth and status, millionaire heir James Beaufort (Damian Hardung) falls in love with prodigious Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) after she earns a scholarship to the titular English boarding school. The season smashed all expectations in its opening season, earning a renewal that aired in November 2025, which achieved the best multi-day performance for a returning show on Prime Video since Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Ahead of a third season of Maxton Hall, which is scheduled to premiere this December, Deadline has revealed that Amazon MGM Studios has purchased the rights to a perfect replacement series, based on Anna Todd‘s forthcoming romance novel series, House of Crowns. Although the novel isn’t yet dated for publication, the studio is backing a writer they have already developed a project for, after previously purchasing the rights to Todd‘s The Last Sunrise, which premieres on Prime Video later this month. Elinor Cook (Boys of Tommen) is reported to be adapting. The series “is set at an elite boarding school in Switzerland where royalty and world leaders send their children. When a poor outsider there on scholarship and a gilded heiress with dangerous secrets fall into a forbidden love, it could shatter them both.”
Another Novel Adaptation Recently Hit a Major Streaming Milestone
House of Crowns will be hoping to follow the success of Maxton Hall and many others like it, with one such novel adaptation recently hitting a major streaming milestone. The latest in a long line of collaborations between Netflix and acclaimed author Harlan Coben, I Will Find You, became one of the streamer’s top ten most-watched English original scripted shows of all time earlier this year. The series dethroned Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson‘s hit thriller His & Hers in the process, with the Coben/Netflix partnership proving hugely successful.
