‘Honeymoon/Funeral’: Carrie Coon Joins Upcoming Rebecca Ferguson, Greta Lee led Rom-Com!!

After making waves in the Dune trilogy and the acclaimed Apple TV series Silo, Rebecca Ferguson is set to jump genres from science fiction to romantic comedy. The film, which is currently shooting in London, has just added another big name to its cast; like Ferguson, she isn’t primarily associated with rom-coms, but she is an HBO legend several times over.

Honeymoon/Funeral stars Ferguson and Greta Lee (Past Lives) as a pair of women unexpectedly thrown together. One (Lee) is headed on her honeymoon alone, after being jilted by her fiancée at the altar. The other (Ferguson) is headed home for her mother’s funeral. Meeting on a flight from Los Angeles to London, the women spark up a connection, and share the next week together. Rumors of the film started circulating after the two stars were seen shooting together in London; it was finally officially confirmed last week.

And now, Deadline reports that the film has added Carrie Coon to its cast; she’ll play Sarah, the fiancée who left her would-be wife at the altar. A respected theater actor who made her big-screen debut in 2014’s Gone Girl, Coon has recently reigned as the queen of HBO, with titles like The Leftovers and The White Lotus under her belt. This fall, she’ll return as high-society striver Bertha Russell in the fourth season of The Gilded Age. This winter, she’ll star in the drama The Liberation as a Holocaust survivor who abandons her family to join a cult’s commune; the film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this month, and Coon‘s performance is attracting rave reviews.

Who Are the Creatives Behind ‘Honeymoon/Funeral’?

Honeymoon/Funeral is directed by Nahnatchka Khan; a veteran producer and creator of TV series like Fresh Off the Boat and Young Rock, it will be her third film as director after Always Be My Maybe and Totally Killer. The script will be written by Khan‘s wife, Julia Bicknell, a writer and producer on The Midnight Club and Yellowjackets, it will be her first feature script. The film is produced by Khan and Jennifer Carreras for their Fierce Baby production company, and by Bicknell. FilmNation will shop the project at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
