‘Ransom Canyon’ Cancelled After Two Seasons!!

We’re now well past the turn of the year, and although Netflix has already released some of its most popular projects of all time, the streamer is moving full steam ahead into the final few months of 2026. The biggest eye-popping release for Netflix so far this year has been War Machine, the big-budget sci-fi thriller starring Alan Ritchson from Prime Video’s Reacher. In its search to replace Stranger Things after it ended at the start of the year, Netflix even enlisted its creators Matt and Ross Duffer to produce a new sci-fi show, The Boroughs, which dropped on the streamer earlier this summer. Despite strong viewership and mostly positive reviews, Netflix decided that the show would not get a second season — the streamer even announced this while the show was in the global top 10.

Unfortunately, The Boroughs is far from the first Netflix series to suffer the fate of being canceled before having a chance to tell its full story. Another Netflix show that just returned for its second season at the end of July was Ransom Canyon, which had been hailed as Netflix’s answer to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone. In the near two-months since its premiere, Netflix had issued no official update about the future of Ransom Canyon, until last night, when news broke that the show had been canceled and would not return for Season 2. The report confirming the show’s cancellation states that Netflix was already apprehensive about bringing it back for a second season, and when it returned to dwindling viewership returns, its fate was sealed. No word yet on if it will be shopped to other streamers.

What Is ‘Ransom Canyon’ About?

Netflix’s official synopsis for Ransom Canyon, which earned scores of 49% from critics and 68% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes across both seasons, reads as follows:

“Welcome to Ransom Canyon, where love, loss, and loyalty collide beneath the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country. With three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way of life. At the center of it all is stoic rancher Staten Kirkland, who is healing from heartbreaking loss and on a quest for vengeance. Staten’s only glimmer of hope rests in the eyes and heart of Quinn O’Grady, longtime family friend and owner of the local dancehall. But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past. Vise tightening, Staten fights to protect the land he calls home, and the only love that can pull him back from the demons that haunt him.”

The ensemble cast for Ransom Canyon consists of Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, and Jack Schumacher.
