Justin Baldoni has been attached to Gina Rodriguez‘s directorial debut, which she is co-producing and co-starring in. This will be Baldoni’s first feature as a producer since 2025’s Code 3.
House of Guerrero is a boxing film that appears to occupy the same niche as Ryan Coogler‘s Creed franchise. Alongside Baldoni and Rodriguez herself, the movie’s producers include Scott Budnick and Ameet Shukla from 1Community, Molly Breeskin from Rodriguez’s I Can And I Will Productions, and Andrew Calof from Baldoni’s Wayfarer Studios.
What is House of Guerrero about?
The film’s story is written by Bernardo Cubría and is based on an original concept by him and Gina Rodriguez. As Deadline reports, the film is set to follow a young, promising boxer whose career is cut short. However, he receives a golden opportunity for one last fight, giving him a shot at the life he thought was lost to him forever. Wayfarer described the film as a “boxing film for a new generation,” aiming to bring a fresh outlook to the genre while also spotlighting an important sporting community.
Given that House of Guerrero is a boxing film, the fight sequences will be important set pieces. To help in that, the fight choreographers will include alums from some of the biggest action franchises in modern Hollywood. Clayton J. Barber and Eric Brown will lead the fight choreography on the project. Barber has worked on IPs such as Black Panther and Creed, while Brown has been associated with John Wick and the Matrix franchises.
Speaking about her upcoming project, director Rodriguez showcased her excitement and stated, “I’ve been boxing since I could walk, and I’m on a mission to show the world what fighting can teach you about life, if you let it. To have the opportunity to make my directorial debut here in California, surrounded by an extraordinary cast and crew, is both incredibly emotional and deeply humbling.”
