Matt Murdock has proven pretty difficult to kill. Netflix tried back in 2018, only for the Man Without Fear to eventually make his way into the MCU, reunite with Kingpin, and somehow get another three seasons of television out of the deal. Eight years after the original cancellation, however, Marvel is preparing to call time on Hell’s Kitchen once again.
Daredevil: Born Again will officially end with its upcoming third season, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with the final episodes scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in 2027. The news comes roughly two months after filming wrapped and arrives alongside another significant change behind the scenes: showrunner Dario Scardapane (The Punisher) has departed during post-production after his contract expired and was not renewed.
It’s another major behind-the-scenes change for a series that has had quite a few of them. Scardapane wasn’t actually the original showrunner on Born Again. The project began with Matt Corman and Chris Ord as head writers before Marvel dramatically reworked the series during the 2023 Hollywood strikes, bringing Scardapane aboard to steer it closer to the tone and serialized storytelling of the original Netflix show.
Marvel Is Officially Cutting Back on Television
The news follows Collider‘s exclusive report that VisionQuest could mark the end of an era for Marvel’s live-action output on Disney+. Collider learned in August that Marvel Studios planned to significantly cut back on new live-action streaming series following the Paul Bettany (WandaVision) show, excluding returning projects that were already in motion, such as Daredevil: Born Again, as well as potential limited series developed under the Marvel Presents and Marvel Spotlight banners.
And it’s been pretty clear in the weeks since that Marvel are indeed cutting back entirely on their television output, despite claims to the contrary. Wonder Man was absent from Marvel’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con shortly before its cancellation, while Kevin Feige focused almost entirely on the MCU’s theatrical future at the event. Marvel’s upcoming movie slate includes Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with Feige previously confirming that no MCU movie will be released between the two Avengers films as the studio prioritizes quality over quantity.
At the time of Collider’s report, Daredevil: Born Again was one of the major exceptions because another season had already completed filming. We now know that season will also be its last. Meanwhile, Disney+ has reversed its previous Season 2 renewal for Wonder Man, leaving VisionQuest and the final season of Born Again as two of the last major pieces of Marvel’s current live-action streaming era.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will premiere on Disney+ in 2027.
