2026 has been a record year for Netflix with some of the biggest projects in platform history on both the movie and TV side of development. When it comes to TV, one of the first projects that comes to mind is the first Stranger Things spin-off show, Tales From ‘85. The animated series recently returned for its second season, but fans noticed that the franchise may be losing its edge, as it was nowhere to be seen in the top 10 mere days after dropping as a binge. Meanwhile, Netflix found tremendous success with the premiere of War Machine, the big-budget sci-fi thriller starring Alan Ritchson. After the film earned over 139 million views during its initial viewing period, which was enough to make the all-time top 10, Netflix announced that a sequel to War Machine is officially on the way.

One of the most popular new Netflix shows to emerge in the last few years is Black Doves, starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw. The show was pinpointed as the perfect combination of James Bond and John Wick, as it was a British spy thriller with some of the most intense hand-to-hand combat you’ll find in a Netflix series. After a record-shattering debut at the end of 2024, the streamer made the right call to renew Black Doves for Season 2, but news about Black Doves Season 2 was quiet for most of 2025. However, this afternoon, Netflix finally released the first trailer for Black Doves Season 2, confirming that the second season of the beloved spy thriller will officially return to streaming on November 5. The trailer puts Helen and Sam back into the middle of an intense journey of global espionage.

What Is ‘Black Doves’ Season 2 About?

The first season of Black Doves earned a strong 92% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes to pair with a mediocre 65% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. The show was written and created for TV by Joe Barton, who is also famous for writing The Lazarus Project. Netflix’s official synopsis for Black Doves Season 2 reads as follows:

“In Season 2, Helen (Knightley) is still betraying her nation’s secrets to the covert organization she serves, the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband, Wallace (Andrew Buchan), preparing to become prime minister, she’s walking a more treacherous line than ever.

As Helen’s enigmatic handler, Mrs. Reed (Sarah Lancashire), is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, Helen is reunited with her best friend, Sam (Ben Whishaw). The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits.
