The cast of the upcoming Netflix project Icebreaker has been announced. The project will be Netflix’s answer to HBO‘s Heated Rivalry.
According to a Deadline update, Daisy Jelley and Connor Simos will lead. Jelley is well known for her work in How to Have Sex, Poser, and more. She also worked with Netflix earlier in Geek Girl.
As for Simos, the hockey-romance adaptation will be the first credited TV role for the actor. His upcoming projects include Subversion, where Simos will work alongside Lily James and Chris Hemsworth. Adapted from Hannah Grace’s bestselling novel, the author will be executive producing the show alongside Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre for Cooper’s Unwell Productions.

Daisy Jelley and Connor Simos will play romantic leads Anastasia “Stassie” Allen and Nate Hawkins, respectively. The plot is about an extremely competitive collegiate figure skater, Anastasia, who’s aiming for Olympic gold. Nate is the campus hockey captain focused on keeping his team on the ice. The drama unravels as the two are forced to share one skating rink.
The logline for Icebreaker, per Variety, reads, “She’s the transfer gunning for Olympic gold. He’s the campus star chasing the NHL. But when an accident forces their teams to share one rink, Anastasia Allen and Nate Hawkins collide—and discipline gives way to obsession, because the only thing more dangerous than wanting to win is wanting each other.”
Icebreaker is based on Hannah Grace’s trilogy, Maple Hills. Icebreaker, the first book of the trilogy, was first published in November 2022 and then got a wider release in 2023. Grace’s romantic fiction became a huge success and spent 70 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. Icebreaker sold nearly 5 million copies, while the entire three-book series has sold over 7.5 million copies worldwide.
