Parineeti Chopra and Deven Bhojani enter the dangerous intersection of journalism and organised crime in Reporting Live, a new investigative thriller premiering on Netflix on October 9.
Directed by Dhruv Tripathi, the film follows an ambitious young reporter and her experienced cameraman as a promising lead draws them into the world of illegal sand mining. What begins as a story worth pursuing gradually places the pair against a powerful sand mafia determined to keep both its operations and the crimes surrounding them out of sight.
Chopra and Bhojani lead an ensemble spanning generations, with Amol Palekar, Adil Hussain and Shekhar Suman also starring.
Tripathi directs Reporting Live from a screenplay he co-writes with Mihir Jadhav, while Partha Kiran Thakur and Joshua Shirsath produce the film.
For Tripathi, the Netflix release represents the culmination of a project he has spent seven years developing.
“It feels incredibly special to finally announce Reporting Live. I’ve lived with this film for seven years, from writing it with Mihir to bringing it to the screen, so seeing it ready to go out into the world is quite surreal,” Tripathi explains.
The filmmaker says his intention is to keep the thriller grounded even as the stakes surrounding its central investigation escalate.
“I wanted to make a thriller that feels grounded and real, while never losing sight of the ordinary people at the heart of the story. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to make it with a wonderful cast and crew who brought so much to the film, and I’m really excited for audiences around the world to experience it on Netflix.”
Beyond its investigative premise, Reporting Live also brings Chopra and Bhojani together on screen for the first time, placing both actors in roles that producer Thakur describes as departures from their previous work.
“The stakes are high, both in the story we are telling and in the scale of its execution. We had a very clear vision for this film, and it has been incredibly fulfilling to see that vision come to life through such a powerful ensemble,” Thakur says.
He adds: “We’re particularly thrilled to see Parineeti Chopra and Deven Bhojani come together on screen in a pairing audiences have never seen before, portraying characters that are unlike anything they have played previously.”
The premise places investigative journalism at the centre of the thriller, with the reporter and cameraman forced to confront how far they are prepared to go when uncovering a story also means getting dangerously close to the people determined to suppress it.
