‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ to Reportedly Re-Release with New Footage!!

Doomsday hasn’t yet fallen, and already, the MCU is having a monster year thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The wall-crawler’s return to theaters nearly five years after Tom Holland‘s last web-slinging adventure, Spider-Man: No Way Home, was expected to be a winner given how popular Peter Parker is among Marvel‘s roster of heroes. Yet, it still managed to surpass all hopes, becoming the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office with $950.7 million and the third-highest globally with just under $2.5 billion, all while earning some of the highest marks for a movie based on the comic book giant’s work in recent memory. It was so successful, in fact, that Sony and Disney are already cooking up a plan to bring it back to the big screen.

A new report by Deadline confirmed that Spider-Man’s latest outing will be returning to theaters, but this may not just be another tour of New York City. Hot off its record-breaking run in August, the two companies are working on a special re-release of Brand New Day complete with extra footage. Most notably, that could include the previously cut scenes that would’ve brought in Rosario Dawson‘s Claire Temple for a Daredevil crossover. Dawson mentioned just before release that she had filmed for the MCU blockbuster, but her scene ultimately didn’t make the final cut. It would’ve been a notable return for her vigilante nurse, who previously appeared in all four of Netflix‘s Marvel superhero shows and their crossover series, The Defenders.

Word is that Dawson wouldn’t be the only surprise revealed in the new footage. Given how many smaller villains, like Tombstone and Tarantula, make appearances in the opening montage of the film, it’s fair to guess there are other cameos in that sequence or elsewhere that never saw the light of day. Audiences will just have to wait until that re-release comes to see what Marvel’s latest hit didn’t show in its first go-around. While Brand New Day is still playing in plenty of theaters around the world and a date is far from set, the decision to start moving on a return now might be partly inspired by the recent Avengers: Endgame Encore release. The special revisit to the MCU’s highest-grossing outing to date was a rousing success over this weekend, earning $86 million around the globe and enticing viewers with its extended runtime, including extra footage connecting it to Doomsday for those who watched on InfinityVision.

Brand New Day not only brought back Holland, but also Zendaya and Jacob Batalon as Peter’s ex-girlfriend and best friend, MJ and Ned Leeds, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and, in his first theatrical MCU appearance, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. Its biggest reveal, however, was that of Sadie Sink as Jean Gray, introducing the first member of Jake Schreier’s forthcoming X-Men movie in 2028. With the eye-popping performance of the web-head’s new adventure, Disney is likely feeling good about how the big crossover Doomsday will stack up when it releases on December 18. Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom is set to take on what will be Marvel’s biggest collection of heroes in a single film since Endgame, including the New Avengers, Fantastic Four, several of the 20th Century Fox X-Men, and many more.
